Pearls are a symbol of wisdom, luck, purity, and love. Like other precious stones and crystals, they contain powerful energy and abilities. That is why some believe pearls have the power to heal the body, mind, and soul.

In most pearls, the mineral aragonite is arranged in sheets of flat, six-sided crystals. Between each sheet, the mollusk secretes a very thin layer of the membrane-forming protein conchiolin. This composite material is called nacre (“NAY-ker”) or mother-of-pearl.

Peridot Known as the stone of compassion, peridot is believed to bring good health, restful sleep and peace to relationships by balancing emotions and mind. This friendly bright green stone also has the uncanny ability to inspire eloquence and creativity; it also brings delight and good cheer.

Peridot does have French origins, so most jewelers and gemstone collectors don’t pronounce the “t” (we say “pear-eh-doe”), following the French. But don’t worry, it’s also correct to say “pear-eh-dot,” which is an acceptable American way to say it. Peridot’s mineral name is olivine.
